HYDROGEOLOGY AND AQUATIC ECOLOGY

The ultimate objective of the research is to ensure stable water supply and on-site water conservation within gas and oil fields under development in West Siberia.

Exclusive data base, highly qualified personnel and state-of-the-art accredited chemical laboratory performing tests on 50 properties of natural and waste water or a soil extract make it possible to carry out special geo-ecological studies.

The latter include

• Hydro-geo-ecological validation and engineering of subsurface waste water storage.
• Assessment and mapping of daylight and underground water sources.
• Environmental and geochemical monitoring of natural waters.
• Development of conservation procedures to prevent man-caused pollution of surface and underground water sources.
• Prediction of channel deformations of Sub-Arctic rivers.
• Development of procedures for stabilization of eroded banks of tundra rivers.
• Recommendations on arrangement of water off-takes from streams and smaller water bodies in permafrost zone.
• Exo-geodynamic monitoring of water erosion and thermal erosion at river-crossing sites.
